Re: Tawa as a stand-alone practice during activity
In Dzogchen, the fruition can be gained through chodpa, or conduct, alone, as is discussed in at least one of the 17 nyingthig tantras; I believe it is the Tantra Without Syllables, but it could be the Self-arisen Vidyā tantra. However, to engage in the conduct, one would have to have ascertained th...

Re: In preparation for Tigle Gyachen...
There is debate going on in this thread? Strange because all I can read is friendly discussion. At any rate, profundity was never the subject of discussion. The topic of discussion thst was brought up centered around completeness and clarity of the available written instructions. In the same way th...

Re: In preparation for Tigle Gyachen...
The fact that Rigdzin Düpa is LN’s outer guru practice and Thigle Gyachen is its innermost secret one definitively says it is the most profound of the two. But it hardly matters if both contain instructions for rushen, trekchöd, and tögal. So in that case, what’s the point of this debate. Both enabl...
Re: One taste
I’m barely familiar with Mahāmudra, so I can’t say if the usage is the same as in Dzogchen Nyingthig, which is where my main experience lies. If you describe what it means in the context of Mahāmudra, I can answer your question.
Re: One taste
Definitely.

Re: Kalachakra and Dzogchen
All Vajrayana teachings originated from the Buddha That's correct. This is the view of the Buddhist teachings themselves, those of the Buddha and all bodhisattvas and buddhas after him, and the whole traditional history of the Dharma. Somehow though we are supposed to discard all that, and accept t...

Re: Breathing through nose vs. Through mouth in Dzogchen (continued)
Yeah, I suspect so. A book rife with lots of fantastical claims about how nasal breathing an cure everything from asthma, to crooked teeth, autoimmune diseases, and even scoliosis lol, all written in “sciency” way by a capable and authoritatively voiced writer to sound super legit. Wow.

Re: Breathing through nose vs. Through mouth in Dzogchen (continued)
I underwent a bachelors degree worth of education on human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and medical management of it, and I’ve been an acute care RN for almost 10 years. So do enlighten me. What are the risks and benefits of nose breathing versus mouth breathing? And indulge me with your...

Re: Breathing through nose vs. Through mouth in Dzogchen
When tsoknyi rinpoche tought the text from the op he definitely said through your mouth but some air will come through your noose. But mainly though mouth. This is the explanation i always heard from different teachers in trekchod I think from experience one can gather that a little bit of air inev...

Re: Breathing through nose vs. Through mouth in Dzogchen (continued)
If you breathe through your mouth in general, it can have a significant negative impact on your health. The book "Oxygen Advantage" explains this. During practice, it can lead to a different mental state, although the biological effect of breathing through the mouth is to reduce oxygen in...

Re: Breathing through nose vs. Through mouth in Dzogchen (continued)
There are reasons for it and they, and this, shouldn’t be discussed here. The question can certainly be answered sufficiently for the present discussion and still be acceptable to share. Suffice it to say that the nostrils are associated with the right and left channels through which the karmic win...

Re: ChNN and formal trekchö practice
And yeah, I have a pretty good sized library of some great texts for her to arrange to get to Tashi Choling if she survives me, but she’ll also have a lot of other stuff to deal with during that time—not the least of which will be her grief, and that of our daughter, and I want to ease her way. The...

Re: ChNN and formal trekchö practice
The physical version is really beautiful. Im sure the e-book is great too though. Wow, you’re right. It’s an exceptionally beautiful book. And nothing beats the feel and smell of a real book. I do like the ability to have access to a large dharma library wherever I go, though. When possible, I buy ...

Re: ChNN and formal trekchö practice
FYI I wrote them to ask when the e-book version would be out and this morning they responded saying it’ll be out a few days from now. Was there any update on this? I'm interested in the e-book version. Thanks. No, I had just emailed them asking the initial question and got that initial answer, and ...

Re: The Role of Shamatha/Vipaysana in Dzogchen
So Vimalamitra WAS practicing Guhyagarbha and Vajrakilaya, but he wasn't REALLY practicing them, so it doesn't count? Philosophy 101, anyone? Well, it’s said that Vimalamitra practiced khorde rushen for 6 months out of the year each year. And he went jalü phowa chenpo, which we know requires a lot ...

Re: The Role of Shamatha/Vipaysana in Dzogchen
Well if you generate it, that is a development stage. If you just think it always been there, that is just a thought. If you visualize your fleshy heart, as a method to recollect its presence and function, have you generated it or merely recollected that which has been there but simply can’t be see...
