Re: Translating the Tibetan canon into Mandarin

Also, CBETA has released its latest version at end of April this year. The current version has already included Chinese translation of Pali Canon. Results from the project mentioned by OP will also be included in the future revision of CBETA.

Re: zixing or self-nature

By the way, there is a post in Chinese at http://www.douban.com/group/topic/31551858/ The original poster there mentioned this:咱們六祖是個打柴的文盲出身,他可不知道佛經中「自性」這個詞是對應於「svabhāva」 的譯文。。。六祖所言的「自性」,絕對不是般若、瑜珈部經論中所言的「自性」,這點一定要確實辨明。(i.e. the Sixth Patriarch HuiNeng was not a well educated person and he should be ...

Re: Sanskrit Romanization

These are great resources, thanks! Does anyone know how can I convert text from a document (say in a PDF) in the Sans Serif Pali font to IAST Unicode? For example, below is the first line in the file <http://www.dharanipitaka.net/2011/2008/sutra-stotra/Prajna-paramita-hrdaya.pdf> when pasted into p...

Just found that 境 can be visaya or jneya, 境智 is jneya-jnana, and 玄義 is 《妙法莲华经玄义》 "The Profound Meaning of the Lotus Sutra" by Tiantai ZhiYi 智顗.

Translate Chinese Passage

I am posting this on behalf of Bhikkhu Kumara. He needs help to translate the below passage to English. Anyone willing to try? From丁福保佛學大辭典(Ding Fubao's Dictionary of Buddhist Studies): 境【術語】心之所遊履攀緣者,謂之境。

Re: Master Xu Yuns teachings in China?

I don't remember where I read about it or heard about it but I remember hearing that some monastery in China has published around 10 -12 volumes of Master Xu Yuns teachings in Chinese. Anyone have any concrete information on this? It was published by Ven Jing Hui and his disciples at Bailin si (aka...

More details about the Chinese artist Zeng Hau(曾浩) can be found here.

Some of his works are actually "Gandharvas of Dunhuang" (敦煌飞天) instead of Avalokiteśvara/Guanyin.

Re: Chinese Buddhist canon

Information on the Chinese canon seems a little hard to come by -- at least in comparison to the Pali Canon Actually, a number of compilations for the Chinese canon are now available on the internet. One of the most important/popular digitized version is CBETA or Taisho Tripitaka . Links to some ot...

Re: Buddha born on 1800 BC? read this

So what date did Master YinShun accept? He was confident with the Chinese texts which recorded that the Buddha's death is 116 years before Asoka's coronation "論佛滅的年代(民國46年): 依我的廣泛辨證,相信北傳的──中國華文教典所記載的佛滅百十六年而育王登位說,是最古典的,最可信賴的傳說了". On Asoka's dates, he took from other scholars' findings that...

Master YinShun, rejected B.C. 1029 as that is from an unreliable source. According to him, that was actually based on 『周書異記』written by some Taoists during the 6th century in China.

If you read the text on the link below, you will read a theory arguing that Buddha born on 1800 BC (more or less) and not about year 500 BC as we knew. What do you think? Also, i see so many "amazing" articles on that website that i get my doubts about some articles... EDIT: i forgot the ...
