Buddhist Keychains

This may be a random question, but I was wondering... I have recently come across some "Buddhist" keychains, with the Diamond Sutra, Great Compassion Mantra, etc, written out in Chinese. I thought the idea of carrying something like this around sounded nice, as another reminder of mindfull...

Re: Provenance of Pure Land Practice

Indrajala presently staying at a Tibetan monastery? Are you giving lectures there against Amitabha and the existence of Dewachen as well?

Are you teaching them how all of their ceremonies are not pure traditional Buddhism as well?

Re: Provenance of Pure Land Practice

I am really beginning to wonder why it seems to be Pure Land that "Indrajala" is very against. Since he seems intent on protecting/promoting supposed "pure" Buddhism, according to his personal qualifications, I wonder why he doesn't spend time talking against Tibetan Buddhism or ...

Re: What has Chinese Buddhism lost?

Ven. Indrajala, with some time having passed since you wrote this... do you think the bolded bits are a fair assessment of any Pure Land teachings? To many of us, they appear instead to be a slander of the Dharma. As a Buddhist monk I don't slander the Dharma. Really? You've been working hard to ta...

Re: The Most Beautiful Collection Of Buddha Statues!

You can do a simple search for "Shiva" on any search engine and see the images that come up. The quote is obviously incorrect.
I have never seen a Buddha displayed on a dead animal's skin like this. The imagery is identicial with Shiva, not Buddha.

Re: Assistance identifying Chinese website

Thanks so much for the quick response! The way the card was printed, I was sort of under the impression it is to be hung over a doorway, (or, I suppose anywhere for that matter). I was just curious if there were any specifications or further information in the Chinese description that would be worth...

Assistance identifying Chinese website

I obtained a card at a Buddhist vegetarian store, entirely in Chinese with only a website link on the back to look up. The website is also all in Chinese. I am curious if anyone can assist in identifying this group and the images on the card, some of which I have never seen before. A picture of the ...

advice on giving up smoking

I have had the desire to quit smoking for some time now but cannot seem to have the strength to follow through. I am curious if others have incorporated practice to help give up this habit. My primary practice is Pure Land, but have been starting Medicine Buddha recitation as well. Any advice or exp...

Chinese Mantra

I heard this mantra recently and was trying to identify it/find a sanskrit version. It is as follows: 觀音菩薩治病真言注音: ōng。pí lǔ nà qí。jiān dōu xǐ hǎo。 mì shā mā。xuē hā mù。 jiān dōu qí bēi xiē nú dǎ。pí ná yā。suō hà。 http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/superja1971-superja1971/article?mid=25&sc=1" onclick=...

Re: Hwa Yen Sect of Chinese Buddhism

Thank you Huseng for your post, although for some reason the pictures do not load. Do you have information about Bodhisattva Cintāmaṇi-cakra-Avalokiteśvara (如意輪觀音) and if this mantra can be practiced by anyone? I have come across it before.

Re: Identify this Dharani? Sanskrit/Chinese

Thanks! The Casket Seal Dharani, like so many others, doesn't seem well known outside of the Sinosphere. I have actually been meaning to read up on Casket Seal Dharani more lately, so this is a pleasant surprize. Thanks for the quick response! Amituofo!

Re: Preta-dana (Buddhist practice of offering food to ghosts)

To me the whole concept behind preta-dana is about sacrificing oneself and one's ego for the good of all beings, and in this case those beings that suffer more than humans. I usually stop it at that -- it's a quaint notion. But to actually believe that you can summon ghosts and direct them to other...

Re: Hsuan Hua on Homosexuality

If we look at the question from a scriptural point of view, there is no statement regarding homosexual acts as acceptable within the third precept. On the other hand, there are quite a few works on the contrary. As a sexual misconduct then, it can lead to lower birth. As far as I know the works tha...
