Re: Greetings
Everything changes. :) I joined here in 2009 as noted above & after a long absence came back to see what was going on. I met with some very cordial people & am happy to have made the acquaintance of many who have what appears to me to be a sincere interest in the Dharma. I bow to those who t...

Re: New buddhist.
What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula is highly recommend by many, many teachers as one of the best books in English that introduces basic Buddhist principles such as the ones you are seeking to learn more about. It's widely available in libraries and here is an Amazon link: http://www.amazon.co...

Whatever joy there is in this world,
All comes from wanting others to be happy.
Whatever suffering there is in this world,
All comes from wanting oneself to be happy.

Re: China expands new measures to directly control Tibetan m
Theocracy is simply, by definition, the wrong word to use in a Buddhist culture. There is no schema of creator gods so using a word with the root theo is inaccurate and thus nonsensical. The word "theos" (ὁ θεός) comes from ancient Greece where it referred to the polytheistic gods like Ze...

... Well, as far as the unsoundness goes, take it up with the American Heritage Dictionary…. I think I shall. Have you seen Sancho Panza around? If you do, kindly tell him to saddle up my donkey, get my lance unstuck from that last windmill, and prepare to ride out to do battle with sloppy, possibl...

Re: NASA Has Free E-Book On Decoding Extraterrestrial Messag
I'm always hopeful the Star Trek version of first contact will play out. NASA is, right now, attempting to create the first warp bubble at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Perhaps a passing Vulcan scout ship will detect it, land, and "unite humanity in a way not even dreamed of before."...

Even if you accept this unsound definition, see Malcolm's previous post about Tibetan history. It still doesn't apply in the way uan imagines it.

Re: China expands new measures to directly control Tibetan m
It was a complete answer. Do you know what a theocracy is? It is "a system of government in which priests rule in the name of God or a god." There is no God in Tibetan Buddhism. It may be a religious society, a society in which certain religious figures hold much authority, but it by defi...

Re: China expands new measures to directly control Tibetan m
Their culture was a theocracy and was centered around supporting that theocracy This statement is complete nonsense. It cannot arise out of a real understanding of how Tibetan culture functions. That was a non answer. But it does arise out of a real understanding of how non answers function. It was...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
"Given the claims common to all Vajrayana Schools, do you support the practice of Vajrayana Buddhism, or not?" I'm giving you a chance. I remember you're the one who accused people challenging the Vajrayana claim as "pissing all over someone else's tradition". And I have replied...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
How interesting people's different perceptions are and what that says about how the perceive the world around them. Some see different sandboxes with children at play, others see gangster territories and horrific violence, yet it appears they are talking about the same thing. It's  versus :guns...

...Or it maybe more the case, that what you don't see is what you get. :) Well, that is certainly true when you get surprise rear-ended in an automobile collision and other places where things not seen really have an impact. But it's old Buddhism 101, though. If you see Buddha as Buddha then that i...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
Quite frankly, time would be better spent practicing than pissing all over someone else's tradition. Of course it would. But that is a lesson that has to be learned often over many lifetimes. Few get in just one. ;) If people get pissed over the triumphalist claims of various teachers, lineages, tr...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
This is the attainment of an Arhat, not even that of a first stage bodhisattva. It is completely different. Here we have another specious claim to go with the original specious claim. Why would the Buddha, the founder of the movement teach such a lowly level of awakening (I.E. the Arahant)? It just...

These are just more claims. Claims without being backed-up with evidence are baseless. Like I've said &a...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
Here are timely quotes, quite apropos to the virtual milieu here, too. The first is why now: During the present Age of Strife, it seems as though people are seldom amiable; rather, they are always trying to outdo one another. Our time owes its name to this fundamental competitiveness. But this is ex...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
You may or may not be right in your perception of "being unkind" Adi, but again this illustrates my point: that it's not the path, but the practitioner. It only illustrates that you either don't understand what you're writing here or that you don't care how it comes across. I will repeat ...

Re: why is Vajrayana considered the fasted way to buddhahood
That is the point, the evidence is the hundreds of biographies of masters in Tibet who achieved Buddhahood or the bhumis. The evidence we have for Vajrayāna is the same evidence we have for the Buddha, the reports of their close disciples. I'm still waiting for some actual evidence that the vajraya...
