Re: I need Zhitro instructions soon please!

There are several resources I use: 1. The CD Bardo Prayers: http://www.amazon.com/Bardo-Prayers-Tibetan-Bhakha-Tulku-Rinpoche/dp/B0028ER83I" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Many teachers have said that playing audio, as a form of prayer, is valid - even if you don't know the ...

Re: Regarding Chinese spies

Reading this thread, my heart goes out to the hapless, low-on-the-food chain Chinese intel operative who is tasked with monitoring Dharma Wheel for anything of potential significance. I had a comparable job combing through and "gisting" transcripts of Radio Peking and Radio Pyongyang broa...

Re: Can Westerners REALLY be Dharma practitioners?

I have heard that His Holiness Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche said that Westerners don't have the knowledge or time to practice Dharma; the best we can hope for is to make connections with lamas and profound teachings. I doubt he meant it in an ethnic sense, but in the sense of anyone living the Wes...

Re: The lamas who give Tibetan Buddhism a bad name

Well...we are responsible for our own karma. All the diplomats, world leaders, family members, and regular people who were kind to Jeffrey Dahmer (or other serial killers) on a daily basis--they're not responsible for his terrible acts. If showing normal human kindness, or human fellowship, automati...

Re: The lamas who give Tibetan Buddhism a bad name

I haven't seen anything to indicate that Tibetan Buddhism has a bad name. There are definite hazards. A sore posterior from listening to hours of great teaching on works of Atisha, sore fingers from weeding garlic mustard on the center grounds, and a sore belly from laughing at the humorous perplexi...

Re: The lamas who give Tibetan Buddhism a bad name

With all due respect, I don't think showing human kindness to anyone is considered messing up, at least not in Buddhism.

Re: The lamas who give Tibetan Buddhism a bad name

What I don't like is Ms. Finnegan's campaign against Tibetan Buddhism. Those familiar with her articles in the Guardian will know what I mean. Bhante, Ms. Finnegan was deeply shocked and permanently affected by material she was sent concerning a former star teacher in your own sect. This is why she...

Re: The lamas who give Tibetan Buddhism a bad name

As with cosmetic ingredients it's not a question of danger, but a question of risk. Danger is everywhere; what is the risk to oneself at any given moment? The risk of being attacked and/or molested in the home, on the way to dharma classes, or on the way home from dharma classes is greater than bein...

Re: Zen to Tibetan Dictionary? *grins*

Some say wu wei is equivalent to Sanskrit asaṃskṛta . "Dao’an (ad 312–85) criticized the Prajñāschools, challenging their faithfulness to authentic Buddhist positions as well as the translation methodologies behind the texts they and other Chinese Buddhists had come to rely on. In particular, h...

Re: Sherab Chamma mantra

It's proving really hard to find! Maybe there's a Sherab Chamma sadhana somewhere that contains it?

This is my attempt, but you should definitely get it checked by a Tibetan teacher:

ༀ་མ་ཝ་མ་ཏེ་མ་ཧི་མོ་ཧ་ཨེ་མ་ཧོ༔ མ་ཡེ༌རཱུ་པ་ཡེ༌ཏ༌དྷུ༌དྷུ༌སྭཱ་ཧཱ།

Re: Clarifying Gendün Chöpel

Thanks for going to the trouble to research this. It is very sad how slander can become truth in the universe of the internet. No one is saying that TB is without scandals, but to deliberately print false things about the teachings with a political motive is pretty low. I wonder if the Trimondis wo...

Re: Clarifying Gendün Chöpel

Glad it's of use. Amazing but sad how many, many places this "quote" has been posted. Much of it looks quite purposeful--cut and paste, sometimes with a second person chiming in, "Oh-this-is-terrible-well-I-guess-I'll-avoid-Tibetan-Buddhism," or another frequent one, "Oh-thi...

Clarifying Gendün Chöpel

For the past several years or so, I've seen, scattered around the web, posts alleging that Tibetan tantras say 12-year-olds should be fed sweets to encourage them to engage in ritual, tantric sex. When pressed, the authors of these types of posts sometimes reveal that it is not an actual tantra they...

Re: Lama Samten and the Nagas of Lake Tekapo

He told me he wanted to do practices to placate the spirits that lived in that area, in particular nagas. Nagas are a species of animal associated with water and invisible to our eye. They are highly intelligent and their moods affect changes in the weather and in the feelings of people. They have ...
