Re: Please pray for my friends.

Bill was in surgery for 14 hours on Wednesday. He is doing well. He is still hooked up to some machines, but he is now sitting up on his own and today he ate some soup. Thank you all for your prayers and chants!

Please pray for my friends.

My friends Bill and Suz in Michigan are having a difficult time. Bill will be having open-heart surgery before the end of September. Suz has been on long-term medications which, it turns out, have damaged her kidneys and they are now only at 20% of their normal function. She is now off all her kidne...

Re: WOMEN ONLY PLEASE!

I simply cannot accept that Buddha, given what we know of him, would have been inclined to treat women as badly as has been alleged. Since it is well-known that the written teachings of several of the world's religions were edited by misogynists in their respective clergies years after the founders ...

Ronnewmexico: English is my first language and I have no cognitive disorders. Thanks for trying to deflect my disagreement with you through armchair diagnosis, though. Are you a specialist in cognitive disorders by education or profession? I apologize for getting you mixed up with Ron the Elder. I a...

Re: What do you use to protect your computer?

If you are using Windows, Comodo's free AV and firewall suite is very good. http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; You should also install AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy, which are programs that find and remove malware. Use both, because...

Re: Euthanasia and the 1st Precept

Catmoon, I'm glad your cat is better and that you are rebuilding your finances. Ronnewmexico, you are making some extraordinarily sweeping generalizations and speaking for vast groups of people I suspect you are either not a member of or have very little experience with. Not all theists favor the de...

Re: Euthanasia and the 1st Precept

A few years ago, one of my cats developed feline diabetes and kidney disease simultaneously. The vet and I spoke at length about the options. One of the options was treatment, which would have required daily shots and pills for the cat, but was only prolonging the inevitable and would have resulted ...

Re: Buddha Booze

I voted Other. I don't like being intoxicated by any substance, and I have not been intoxicated in over twenty years. I do sometimes enjoy a single glass of beer with a good dinner, and at weddings or on New Year's I'll drink a toast with a single glass of champagne. So while I don't abstain from al...
