Re: How much does labeling as good or evil has to do with it?

I think we need to separate between only labeling and more than labeling. Only someone who knows the nature of reality can be in the state of only labeling and they can know it is subjective, instead of objective. Ordinary beings will be more than labeling. For example: If you say this tiger is fier...

Re: Could someone explain emptiness?

I found there is a big difference being in the state of traceless and being in the state of empty of inherent existence. Between these 2, the last is still a hindrance. We are in front of idea. Useful for communication with others, because there is no choice for communication. But for oneself, not k...

Re: Could someone explain emptiness?

Emptiness has to make sense. Because if it doesn't make sense, there is no point to study it. Emptiness is also just a view. Ordinary beings have a view of inherent existence. This view is countered over by the view of emptiness, which negating all of those inherent view. At the end, we should be cl...

Re: Could someone explain emptiness?

When we know emptiness is the absence of thing, we should know emptiness needs thing to work. Emptiness needs something for it to make sense. Both form and emptiness need input. And that input is inherent thing. The difference is form is the assertion of thing. Emptiness is the negation (absence) of...

Re: Could someone explain emptiness?

Emptiness and form are like husband and wife. Both are theory. Because form is theory. We say this is a car. This is a form of intellectual theory. Because the job of emptiness is to negate that form theory, emptiness itself is also just a theory. We can only talk emptiness to someone who has the as...

Re: Does the soul exist in Mahayana thought?

If we want the satisfying answer for soul, we must search it now, not the future. If now, you see no soul, it is automatic in the future there is no soul. Buy if in the future you can conclude there is no soul, it doesn't mean you can conclude there is no soul right now when you are reading dharmawh...

Re: Consciousness and awareness terminology

Sky walker:
When I am mindful, when I am looking at that which is aware, that is something very specific. What is it that I am speaking of? Consciousness or awareness or both?
If you can see something very specific, you haven't seen enough.

Re: Consciousness and awareness terminology

Consciousness and awareness are basically referring to the same issue - there is something. Talking about soul, mind, consciousness, and awareness are basically also same. We need these word, because this word is the pointer, so I can deliver what I want to say, and you can also deliver what you wan...

Re: Does the soul exist in Mahayana thought?

Inference based on which event? Present event or future event? Something that has to be seen now, should be answered based on present event, not future event. If someone has a soul, he will have a soul now and the future. If we try to tackle the question based in future event, like rebirth or dying,...

Re: Does the soul exist in Mahayana thought?

People like to find answer based on future event.

We will just end up with speculation.

The question about soul is answered from now's event.

If now, you don't see any soul, there is no point to entertain the rest.

If at this moment, while reading Dharmawheel, you can't see there is no soul, the question of what is reincarnating is foolish.

Re: Clear Light Mind

Clear light doesn't appear just close to death. It appears at all times, even now. The difficulty is how do you recognize that in the present moment? And this is the major aim for direct teaching, such as Zen, Mahamudra, and Dzogchen trying to help us to recognize it at the present time. Padmashamba...

Re: How can substances alter consciousness?

Yes, what Huseng pointed out is correct. For anyone who has not realized the naked awareness, they will always confused the ripening of karma as the reaction. This is what the original question is - how can substances alter consciousness? Substances cannot alter naked awareness because once you real...

Re: Buddha nature misunderstood as atman.

Buddha nature will never become an object of recognition.

The point you recognize your Buddha nature as an object is the point you "lost" your Buddha nature.

Unobjectification cannot be permanent nor impermanent.

It is simply illogical.

Re: Why is dependent origination so important?

In daily life, we also use the term like interdependence or dependent on each other. However, in our ordinary meaning, dependent origination or dependent arising suggest an interaction between entities and entities, between something absolute and absolute, interaction between self and self. However,...

Re: Buddha nature misunderstood as atman.

Buddha nature and dream are not comparable. Buddha nature is of the body (basis), dream is based on the means (functions) of the body. The body is permanent but the means is neither permanent nor impermanent, viz. it is dynamic. Jyoti That is just illustration how wrong it is to say permanent dream...

Re: Buddha nature misunderstood as atman.

In our daily ignorant world, there are even no people will mention permanent dream. Only foolish people will say that. Dream is just dream. Likewise, if we know Buddha nature is not permanent, then don't say that as permanent. If we know Buddha nature is not impermanent, don't say that as impermanen...

Re: Buddha nature misunderstood as atman.

In Mahamudra, Buddha nature simply refers to the nature of mind, which is also known by other terms such as kun gzhi etc. The nature of mind is just name. It is not important what is the name, the most important is what is referring is not permanent and not impermanent. When Cittamantra read the te...
