Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra: differences and similarities
May I ask if anyone knows of cases where a practitioner of dzogchen (either Buddhist or Bön) achieved a full-fledged Rainbow Body of Great Transference (jalus phowa chenpo) in the last 100 years? I.e. like Padmasambhava himself did.

Re: Obstacle years
When do obstacle years occur? Is it every 12 th year..i.e. if i am year of the dog sign they will arise in that year..or is it when the 12/24/36 th year etc ends and i enter 13/25/37 th year etc. If you are a dog, then the next year is an obstacle year. So then, if one were born late in the centipe...

Re: False/Wrong View in Dzogchen
The reason why I have been opening a new topic is, because of a recent exchange I had with an acquaintance of mine, who is an Advaitin and at the same time practices Dzogchen. I have a very odd feeling with the whole arrangement; especially with his argumentation that lines between Buddhism and Hin...

Re: Buddhist Anarchism
I don't want to sidetrack the thread, but may I ask what makes the Khon royal family the oldest surviving in the world? Why Khon and not for instance the Japanese imperial family or some other royal lineage? Well, second oldest then. Though arguably, since the Khon family were the direct descendant...

Sadhu! Sadhu! HHDL and I went through the same line of reasoning in life. I also agree with him that Socialists fundamentally are just well intentioned, they just want to make things better for everyone by bringing equality. It just doesn't work, and leads to more suffering. That's unfortunate and ...

Re: Getting back on track after a failing teacher
Forgive me for barging into the discussion, but can someone please list the qualities a genuine Guru in Vajrayana should have as well as the ways on how to choose a qualified, authentic Vajrayana guru?
Can you also provide exact scriptural sources for this?
Thank you

Here is a Cundi practice I have just uploaded http://youtu.be/i4cEA-CvMJc OM YA HA HUM 1. If possible learn the complete mantra - at least the second line namaḥ saptānāṁ samyak-saṁbuddha koṭīnāṁ tad-yathā oṁ cale cule cundi svāhā 2. Chant along with the video, focusing on the images of Cundi 3. Tow...
Re: TENGRIISM
As far as I understand it "Tengerism" or "Tengriism" is the more modern and preferred way to refer to what is commonly known as "Shamanism." The latter term was coined by western anthropologists and is misleading because it sounds like it's the shamans who are being wo...

Phantom, baby! You're back! Thank God, Phantom is back! Phantom, you have been driving us all insane with worry. You don't write, you don't call. Not even a Christmas card! Why, Phantom, why? Don't we mean anything to you? Is this all we are to you - just a bunch of strangers on a Buddhist discussi...

Re: Institutional Buddhism
The answer is that due to Buddhist hostility against Dzogchen teachings, Dzogchen completlety died out in India. It was preserved in Tibet by Tibetans. Malcom, As matter of fact not only Dzogchen desappeared from India, but all Buddhism in general, Vajrayana included, due to the Muslims' activity. ...

Lest we forget. Solzhenitsyn on evil From "The Gulag Archipelago" If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil...

Re: are nirmanakayas, "philosophical zombies"?
Buddha denied he was a human being when the question was put to him. This is fascinating! If Buddha is not a human being, then who or what is he? Does this also imply that he was not even born as a human being, despite having the appearance of a human? May I ask in which Buddhist text did the above...

Re: ChNNR Dorje Drolo retreat
One becomes a rudra much more rapidly than other practices. It is a dangerous practice for one's ego. The guardians of Drollo are the worldly eight classes, in general. There is nothing more wrathful in any school. Thank you for the reply, Namdrol. Just one last question in this respect: are termas...

Re: Taoism and Buddhist Tantra
So I guess from a Buddhist POV, the only problem with this goal is that it is not a permanent attainment. Probably would correspond to form or formless god realms. Do Taoists consider this outcome permanent? And this my friend is the key point. The confusion is also due to translations from Chinese...

Re: ChNNR Dorje Drolo retreat
It is a little complicated. But the long and short of it is is that it is the most wrathful practice there is. If your view is very stable, then there is no problem, but if not. Drollos name is "krodha lokottara" i.e. "transcendent wrath" -- gro wo lod is a corruption of that. I...
