Re: Please help - notification reply issue
Weird. I never had this work for me either. Checked spam and nothing. I never get emails for topic notifications or new PMs.

Could you say more about this or direct me to a resource?tingdzin wrote: He is correct, however, in saying that a lot of the received "history" of Buddhism in Tibet definitely reflects various agendas, rather than being simple factual accounts.

Re: Chan, Mahamudra, and Tibet
What Dunhuang text is Reggie referencing and how is it relevant? I heard that there maybe was a Tibetan Chan lineage that died out. if there was such a text proclaiming that Chan was superior, couldn't that just indicate that there were Chan supporters during that time? I don't see how he uses that ...

Chan, Mahamudra, and Tibet
Hi everyone, I was just listening to a Dharma Ocean podcast (130: Pure Awareness) and Reggie Ray said some things which he said may be a bit heretical to some but actually are historically accurate. To me it sounds very odd, and I haven't heard these things before. I was hoping someone with more exp...

Re: Some Questions about DC
Śakyamuni is one of the twelve teachers of Dzogchen teachings, beginning with Buddha Nanga Dampa and ending with Garab Dorje. Do we know what Dzogchen teachings Shakyamuni taught? Are there any tantras specifically revealed by Shakyamuni? If you read a little about Garab Dorjes life I think you wil...

Re: Dzogchen and Buddhism
I have also said that Dzogchen is a personal experience, as you well know. If someone comes to Dzogchen who is a rabbi, for example, they do not need to shed their rabbi skin just because they are a Dzogchen practitioner. They can continue just as they are. Dzogchen is not a matter of belief. Havin...

Re: Dzogchen and Buddhism
What Username has termed here "pure ultimate space" is just a synonym for emptiness. Of course, in Dzogchen, we are not focusing solely on emptiness but also on the innate potential for manifestation, inseparable from emptiness, which obviously can't be denied. If you remember that despit...

Actually, he is. I am talking about Ācārya Dharma Vajra in that article. He is talking about Madyamaka not Dzogchen Define empty. Is Atman free from extremes or not? Empty = lacking inherent existence, devoid of permanent substance, etc. Atman is not free from extremes. Atman is Brahman, and Brahma...

Re: Dzogchen and Buddhism
Yes, Advaita does teach that there is an ultimate space which is the source of all reality, all phenomena. But this is wrong view according to Buddhadharma. The Chos dbyings mdzod states "Everything arises from the dharmadhātu, everything subsides into the dharmadhātu..." N Longchen sound...

Re: Dzogchen and Buddhism
Eckhart Tolle says experiential wise Dzogchen is identical with Advaita and Zen. Malcolm seems to be echoing the same words now. Not saying that's a bad thing. It's probably true. Eckhart Tolle only talks about presence. He hasn't realized non-dual yet. I don't see how Dzogchen and Zen can be exper...

But I am saying that when you study these things, philosophically, at any rate, it is very hard to show the difference between Advaita and Madhyamaka. [/quote] It's easy to differentiate the two. Re: Dzogchen and Buddhism
If we want to understand emptiness in Dzogchen, we do not need to engage in any analysis at all -- we need to merely reflect on the examples of illusion -- that is sufficient for understanding everything is unreal -- no analysis required, no fancy Madyamaka analysis, we don't even have to use the w...
