Re: Mahayana Mantras
Are there any mantras that people use regularly in the Mahayana traditions besides the Amitabha's name, and the daimoku in Nichiren? I personally find chanting practice to be very focusing, and am always interested in what others do for that type of practice. Om mani padme hum -- Avalokiteshavara O...

Re: Book explores 30 wonders of Korean Buddhism
Understanding a religious faith is difficult — spanning the scope from the history and culture to philosophy and practices, it would be nearly impossible to completely learn a given tradition in a short period of time, although people benefit greatly by using various sources, including books. The K...

Dharma Path by Kagyu Thubten Chöling
So, I was wondering what people know of this program. Is this something I should wait until I have been practicing for a while before starting or can it be good for beginners?

Re: Differences between the schools
Hello ChangYuan - The main differences between the Tibetan Buddhist schools are the methods that they emphasize and the difference in their view on Buddha Nature. However most of the teaching and basically all of the basic teaching is the same. By the methods, I mean the tantric methods/sadhanas fo...

Re: Differences between the schools
Its easy actually. Whatever school you are in, if that's working, keep doing it and work for the liberation of all sentient beings. The rest is just window dressing. But thats the point of wanting to know the differences, to find a school to study with. Maybe it would help to know what you're inter...

Re: Autism
That's a loaded question. In some cases being born with an incomplete or damaged set of faculties is a result of past karma. The body is after all "old karma" while our current actions are "new karma". Well, its not so much a loaded question, as a mother trying to figure out a v...

Re: Finding the proper path
Find a teacher who inspires you. That's more important than finding a particular school. There are many methods to deal with different hindrances inside each school. Let me give you an example. In the Dzogchen Community we have Vajra Dance, Yantra Yoga, the SMS program and so on and so forth. Some ...

Re: Finding the proper path
Good to hear. More along the lines of what I am saying is the actual practices though. Like, for me, I am big on ritual and chanting. Not so great at the whole sitting for hours of zazen though. So for me, chanting and moving meditations would be best.

Finding the proper path
So, I am sure most have gone through this before, and I am just rehashing an old debate but.....here we go. So, how did anyone find the proper path in Buddhism for themselves? I know it is a matter of all paths leading to the same place, much of it just has to do with ones preferences regarding prac...

I once saw on another forum a warning to stay away from this teacher and these centers. Is this grounded in fact, or is it mere speculation on things? It seems most of the teachers I am finding in NY are linked to inappropriate relationships with students. Any help on this would be greatly appreciat...
